Our 1st baby calf

At our house, we have 50 heifers that BJ is calving out. They are here at the house because this is their first baby and sometimes they need help. This young lady started calving the other day and BJ kept an ever watchful eye on her and she succeeded in having her first baby all by herself. This is very good. Animals really don't need our help and it's best we stay out of their business. So, it's a blessing when the heifers can take of their own.

Right now she is eyeballing BJ because he is coming out there on the fourwheeler to get them closer to the barn for the night. We have bad coyotes near our house. At this time she was out there by herself. In a crowd of cows, coyotes aren't a big deal, but by themselves it's a problem.
 Some serious eyeballing.
 Now baby hears BJ coming.
On the move! The funny part is the calf thought BJ was his mom and he was chasing the fourwheeler around. BJ had to lock him in a pen till his mom caught up. It was really cute. First born calves are the cutest things you have ever seen.

  1. Is this Avery calf? Your mom told us that BJ logged the early guy as Avery. HAHA! Very appropriate!

  2. No the avery calf is out with the cows. I wanted to get a pic of him but he is a spry little sucker. He can get a little squirrly out in the open pasture where he is.
