Our 1st baby calf

At our house, we have 50 heifers that BJ is calving out. They are here at the house because this is their first baby and sometimes they need help. This young lady started calving the other day and BJ kept an ever watchful eye on her and she succeeded in having her first baby all by herself. This is very good. Animals really don't need our help and it's best we stay out of their business. So, it's a blessing when the heifers can take of their own.

Right now she is eyeballing BJ because he is coming out there on the fourwheeler to get them closer to the barn for the night. We have bad coyotes near our house. At this time she was out there by herself. In a crowd of cows, coyotes aren't a big deal, but by themselves it's a problem.
 Some serious eyeballing.
 Now baby hears BJ coming.
On the move! The funny part is the calf thought BJ was his mom and he was chasing the fourwheeler around. BJ had to lock him in a pen till his mom caught up. It was really cute. First born calves are the cutest things you have ever seen.

The most abused and neglected cat ever

Izzy is our house mascot. She is the guardian of the inside, well not really but we tell her she is.
Now, study this picture carefully. Napping in the middle of the day, on my bed, in front of my winter heater.
Again napping or relaxing if you will.
"Oh, the light, it's too bright. Go away, I'm busy."
This is her normal position and stance on life most days.

I am going to try to start a series of all of our ferral and adopted animals we have accumulated over time. This will include izzy of course, who is from the duncan animal shelter, our dogs, an emu, and donkeys.
I know donkeys, crazy huh.

Name That Movie

"Oh no, Somebody's got a frownie face"
Doesn't this make you want to giggle. Anyways, name that movie. Hint: Steve Carrell

That's Oklahoma for you

Oklahoma is known for many it's wonderous things, one of which is it's weather patterns. Yesterday, nice sweatshirt weather, sunny. Today....
A winter wonderland of 20 degree gusty winds, freezing rain, snow, and a myriad of other weather phenomenon that didn't seem possible yesterday.
Look at those poor heifers huddled around their bale, ice on their backs. It was too cold for me to leave my house to take this pic, I'm a big sissy I'm not ashamed.
And look at these goobers, nice and warm and full of doughnuts because I also found out later reese might have shared her doughnuts holes with pepper. Maybe just a few. During this picture I told Pepper to sit and Reese sat instead and Pepper just wagged her tail and beat Reese to death with it because she thought she might get more doughnut holes. We're a little backwards around here if you can't tell already.

What I did this morning at 4:47 am

At our house it is a whopping 2 degrees. The cold front wasn't suppose to move in till about 7 am and it came strolling in at about 3 am. So when BJ woke up this morning at 4 am and heard and saw the freezing rain and snow on the ground, he hurriedly got dressed in his coveralls and warm gear to go check everybody's water. Because if the water troughs freeze, them heifers in deep doodoo, if you know what I mean. So as I lay there in my nice warm bed, trying to go back to sleep unsuccessfully, thinking to myself, "Man, BJ must be really cold out there", I went ahead and got up turned the kettle on so he could have something hot to drink when he got back. Turned my coffee on so I could function. I decided to make some homemade doughnuts.
These are what's left of them. I made doughnut holes as well, but the girls ate them before I could even get a picture. Look at that doughnut in the corner with bites taken out of it, for shame...
Actually, next time I will probably just make them all doughnut holes because the girls in their weirdness think those are the only doughnuts worth eating. Anyways, if you want this recipe it's pretty much the easiest thing in the world. It's Paula Deen style.

Doughnuts-Paula Deen Style

Give them a whirl, their worth it. Maybe not at 4:47 am but why not if your up anyway.

Riley's weird trick

I don't know if many kids can do this, but Riley can touch her nose with her tongue. I don't know of anyone so to me it's weird and rare. Maybe all kids can and Riley's not so special, but I am under the impression that she is super special and can do this weird thing.
How about it people? Is your kid as special as mine? I don't think so! Booyah!

Curlers!

The girls and got some curlers just for fun and I was so hopeful their hair would be cute and curly and pretty. Our results were not so great.

Reese pulled her's out after about 2 seconds. Her hair didn't change much.
Flock of sea gulls, as always.
Still straight as a string.

We may have not had the most positive results, but we had fun and it gave me an excuse to comb their at least once that day. The girls seem to think combing their hair is bad for their health, kinda like baths.

Look at these teeth

Riley brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "smile, let me see all your teeth". It looks a little overbearing, but think of it another way. A zest for life, an overachiever, minding her mother. That's what I keep telling myself anyways when she does all her wierd stuff.
By the way, the head warmer she is wearing, a nice lady in our church made these for Riley, Reese, and their two friends Macy and Mackenzie. Aren't they nice? Homemade and everything!

Day 2-Rubber Tub Love

I caught the girls again! Playing with the tubs that I specifically labeled as boring, mundane, and not fun. Just look at their faces, it just makes me giggle.

Now they have added a second basket to their tomfoolery! When will it end?

Why do we even buy Christmas Presents?

I often ask myself this question. The girls always seem to find something that is very mundane, dull, not fun if you will and turn into the high point of their day.
Exhibit A, B, C, D, E, and F

Let the good times roll. Again, why even bother? I should just go down to the local appliance store and dig their fridgerator boxes out of the trash and bring them home. I'm pretty sure that would be just as exciting as any new toy I could bring home. Oh well, that's better than them not being happy. Oh, to be young again and find joy in an empty rubbermaid.

Christmas Goodness (plus a few pounds)

This Christmas everyone in my family cooked enough food to feed a small army. The amount of goodies has not only made my pants tighter, I also am trying to not fall into a sugar coma. Here are a few samples of the goodness.
This was one of my platters, Peanut Butter Cup Brownies, Pumpkin Cream Pies, Decorated Christmas Cookies, and Red Velvet Fudge. The fudge was kinda a flop, but was ok. The rest, one word, divine.

Anyways, my mother, that woman is trying to give my the sugars. She filled the snowman tins with everyone's favorite goodies. Mine contained Peanut Butter Balls, these ooey gooey bars I absolutely love, Vanilla covered pretzels and Jelly. Oh so much Jelly. Last but not least my absolute favorite, Cinnamon Pears. I'm going to die form all the sugar, Help! Just kidding, stay away. I mean it. Git!

My nannie, bless her soul, she made everyone care packages, like we are a bunch of starving orphans. Give me a break. They were these huge boxes of candy, homemade treats, and spiced tea. It was wonderful and about made me comatose.

At my grandma's house, the amount of food she made literally would not fit on the plate. You had to take turns with your plate to fit all the food. And then she would yell at you because you didn't eat enough. So we would begrudgingly pass our plates around, again. Can you hear the sarcasm? Because I'm pretty sure none of us really put up too much of a fight when we piled more food on our plates for the third time.

We also went to visit my brother in Denver and ate some more! We had a home cooked meal every night, literally snacked all day long. It was downright slovenly, but oh so good.

I am so thankful for all of our family visits and look forward to gaining back all the weight it took me all year to lose next year.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and happy new year.
